Nowadays, AI can create a content calendar, write your captions, give you hooks and repurpose your content, all while the kettle boils (even less).
So you could say it's fair to ask: If AI can do all that, why would you pay a social media manager?
And the answer is, because a social media strategy involves a lot more than just posting content. In the same way as, let's say, the job of a personal trainer. Anyone can tell you to eat more protein and do strength training, but there's a lot more that goes into creating a personalised program.
“There is a better, more efficient way to get you from A to B. Not every idea that AI gives you is worth posting, and not every idea brings your business closer to its goal.”
What a Good Social Media Manager Actually Brings
A good social media manager will understand your business, what you need to post, what your audience wants, which posts are taking you in the right direction, what is working well so far, and what needs to be changed.
A good social media manager will bring:
- Structure
- Creative thinking
- Customer insights
- Adaptability
- Execution
- Analysis
While AI has made parts of the job easier, you can't replace the strategy, analysis, adaptability, accountability, the understanding of your business and the time it takes to manage your social media. We still need human insight and judgement.
Your business is unique, and it requires more than a bunch of ideas that AI has given to another million people...
AI isn't replacing social media managers, but it has made their value more evident. And it's also raising the bar for us to be better at what we do, and surely that's a good thing!
If you currently have a social media manager, make sure they're not "just posting content".
So, What's the Real Question?
And yes, you can absolutely do your content yourself, but you could also do your own bookkeeping, learn graphic design, edit every video, build your own website... but would that be the best use of your time?
So perhaps the question is not "Can I do this myself?", but instead: "What parts should AI do, what parts should I do, and what parts are better handed to someone else?"
